Her initial utterance probably resembled the paraphrase frequently recalled in the text, met him pike hoses. In addition, Molly's implied mispronunciation may be the point of departure for Bloom's odd mispronunciation, metamspychosis, later in this scene (see also below, note 4).

METAMSPYCHOSIS: Gabler's restoration of metamspychosis [1922,1927] as Bloom's possible bridge from metempsychosis to the pronunciation remembered afterwards as met him pike hoses presents us with an unsolved problem.

Bloom's thoughts telescope two sentences, producing an accidental metaphor: To bone acrobats young so they metempsychosis (or metamspychosis) is to overcome their fear of heights so they can be trained to fly, an Ovidian metamorphosis of human into a flying animal. It is possible to to force a Wakean reading here, me-tam-spy-chosis being Joyce's possible multiple overlay of metam-orphosis upon metem-psychosis to which has been added Molly's possible of the silent p in ps, transposed to sp:
